Episode 215: Inflammation After 40: Understanding the Signals Your Body Is Sending

There comes a point when many of us start noticing changes that don't seem to have a clear explanation.

You feel tired even after a full night's sleep. The scale becomes less cooperative. Your joints ache. You walk into a room and forget why you went there. You begin wondering whether this is simply part of getting older.

That question was at the heart of my conversation with clinical nutritionist and epigeneticist Tapp Franke Ingolia.

Tapp believes many of the symptoms people associate with aging may actually be connected to chronic inflammation. While inflammation is a natural response that helps the body heal, problems arise when that response remains activated over time. The result can affect energy, mood, cognition, sleep, metabolism, and overall quality of life.

Instead of focusing solely on lifespan—how long we live—Tapp emphasized the importance of healthspan. In other words, how well we live during those years.

Living longer is only part of the equation. Most of us want to remain active, independent, mentally sharp, and engaged with life for as long as possible.

We also explored some of the emerging technologies and therapies attracting attention in the wellness and longevity space. From red light therapy and hyperbaric treatments to peptide therapies and advanced diagnostic testing, researchers and practitioners continue searching for ways to help people feel better and function at their best.

There is no universal solution. Every body is different. Understanding your own health patterns, nutritional needs, and lifestyle habits remains an essential part of the process.

The good news is that feeling poorly should never be accepted as inevitable.

If fatigue, brain fog, or persistent inflammation have become part of your daily experience, it may be worth asking deeper questions about what your body is trying to communicate. Sometimes symptoms are not merely inconveniences. They are invitations to pay closer attention.
