When people talk about looking younger, the conversation usually starts with skincare. We talk about serums, lasers, facials, injectables, and every new product that promises to turn back the clock. But there's one thing that can dramatically change the way you look—and many people overlook it completely: Your hair.
I've always believed that beauty isn't about trying to become someone else. It's about becoming the best version of yourself. Sometimes that means embracing change instead of holding on to what worked twenty years ago.
That's why I was excited to sit down with hairstylist and salon owner Erika Quince for this episode of Party's Over. Erika has spent years helping women find styles that complement who they are today, not who they used to be. One of the biggest mistakes people make is assuming that a hairstyle they loved in their twenties, thirties, or even forties will automatically continue working for them as they age.
Many of us continue wearing the same haircut, the same color, and the same styling habits year after year without stopping to ask whether they're still serving us.
Erika pointed out that the right cut and color can brighten your face, soften your features, and make you appear more refreshed almost instantly. The wrong cut can have the opposite effect.
Erika doesn't believe in copying celebrities. You see a celebrity walk onto a red carpet looking incredible and suddenly you're convinced you need that exact haircut. Maybe it's a sleek bob. Maybe it's curtain bangs. Maybe it's a dramatic color change. The problem is that what works beautifully on someone else may not work at all for you.
A haircut isn't successful because it's trendy. It's successful because it complements your face shape, your coloring, your lifestyle, and your personality.
The goal isn't to look like a celebrity. The goal is to look like yourself on your best day.
That philosophy extends beyond the salon chair. It also applies to the way we care for our hair. As Erika explained, many of the habits we don't think twice about can affect both the health and appearance of our hair. Sun exposure, chlorine, heat styling, and over-processing all take a toll over time.
Looking your best isn't about chasing youth. It's about staying current with yourself.
Too often, we freeze ourselves in time. We cling to old styles, old habits, and old versions of ourselves because they're familiar. But growth requires adaptation.
The woman you are today deserves different consideration than the woman you were twenty years ago. If you're feeling stuck in a beauty rut, consider this your reminder that small changes can create powerful results. You don't need to reinvent yourself overnight. Sometimes a fresh perspective, a trusted professional, and a willingness to evolve are enough.
