Let’s talk about something a lot of women quietly live with:
People-pleasing.
Not the “I’m a nice person” kind.
Not the “I care about others” kind.
The kind where you ignore your own needs.
The kind where you swallow your feelings.
The kind where “I’m fine” becomes a way of life — even when you’re absolutely not.
In Part B of Episode 124 of Party’s Over, I talk about the emotional weight of people-pleasing… because it’s something so many of us learned early:
Don’t upset anyone.
Don’t disagree.
Don’t make waves.
Don’t be “too much.”
Be easy. Be likable. Be accommodating.
Until one day you realize:
You’ve been disappearing in your own life.
We do it because it feels safer.
We do it to avoid conflict.
We do it because approval feels like love.
But here’s the truth:
When you constantly put yourself last, your nervous system pays.
Your emotional health pays.
Your relationships eventually pay, too.
Because resentment builds.
Exhaustion builds.
Silence builds.
And eventually, you’re not being “loving” anymore — you’re just surviving.
One of the most powerful shifts is this:
You do not exist to make everyone comfortable.
You’re allowed to:
That isn’t selfish.
That’s self-respect.
Strength isn’t never needing help.
Strength isn’t staying silent.
Strength isn’t pretending everything is fine.
Strength is:
Honesty.
Self-regard.
Courageously choosing yourself.
Because when you stop people-pleasing, something beautiful happens:
You come back home to yourself.
