Episode 119: Reality TV Isn’t Real — And Why That Matters More Than You Think

Written by Sandra Silverman | Feb 8, 2026 8:43:09 PM

Let’s be honest — most of us have curled up on the couch, glass of wine in hand, and gotten completely sucked into a reality TV show. The drama. The tears. The betrayals. The friendships. The villains. The chaos.

But in Part B of Episode 119 of Party’s Over, Vita — who used to be a reality TV producer — took us behind the scenes… and it turns out, a lot of what we think is “real” is anything but.

Storylines are guided.
Characters are framed.
Moments are manipulated.

And sometimes?
A completely normal person gets edited into a villain — and that persona follows them into the real world long after the cameras stop rolling.

We talked about why viewers love these shows — because we see wealth, beauty, messiness, imperfection, risk, emotion, and intensity we don’t always allow ourselves to live. We want to feel something. We want to watch a life that seems bolder, louder, bigger.

But the cost is real — especially for the people on camera.

They’re not characters.
They’re human beings with families, feelings, reputations, and mental health.

And that’s what this conversation is really about:
Being mindful of what we consume.
Staying compassionate.
Remembering that people are rarely as simple as a storyline.

We deserve truth — and kindness

Not just for the people on our screens… but for ourselves.
Because culture edits women too. Narratives get placed on us. Expectations get scripted for us. And part of reclaiming our lives is refusing to believe the “edited version.”
