People love to call beauty “superficial.”
But I’ve learned something over the years: anything that changes how you feel about yourself has depth.
In this segment of Party’s Over, we start with nails — and end up talking about confidence, identity, and self-respect.
I’m joined by my friend Nancy and nail expert Haya Amir, founder of Pure Nail Studio in Miami Beach. Haya has been in the nail industry since she was a teenager, and her perspective is grounded, practical, and refreshingly honest.
We talk about how nail trends evolve with age. Younger clients often gravitate toward long, expressive designs, while many women later in life choose clean, natural aesthetics that feel polished and effortless. Neither is right or wrong — they’re simply expressions of who we are and where we are in our lives.
What matters most isn’t the color or length. It’s cleanliness, care, and intention.
And yes — men should be getting manicures too. Grooming isn’t about gender. It’s about respect. Clean, healthy nails say something about how you take care of yourself — and how seriously you take the details.
We also dive into the questions people ask me all the time:
Is gel polish safe? What about UV or LED lights? Are non-toxic systems worth it?
The truth, as always, lives somewhere between fear and fact. The nail industry has evolved dramatically, and today there are more options than ever — from long-lasting gels to alternatives like Dazzle Dry — so people can choose what works best for their lifestyle and comfort level.
What I love most about this conversation is how it reframes nails not as indulgence, but as self-expression and self-care.
When you feel polished, you move differently.
When you feel confident, you speak differently.
And when you respect yourself in small ways, it shows up everywhere else.
And if anyone still wants to call that superficial?
Party’s over.
